Linda Falk

Announcing the Winner of the Heart & Soul Award for December, 2010

Linda Falk, of San Juan Capistrano, is our most recent award-winner. At first, Falk did not see how she fit in. But the mortuary purposely sought out an “extraordinary ordinary” person to honor this month, she was told, and then it started to sink in.

“I’m just a mom, a grandmom and a teacher,” Falk said. “I’m just doing what people are doing today in the sandwich generation.”

What Falk is doing is taking care of her 9-month-old grandson, Kellen, by day and her aging parents by night. And in between, she teaches hundreds of children Spanish and has even created similar educational programs for two other schools in South Orange County. O’Connor Mortuary has been handing out Heart and Soul Awards since February.

In Falk’s honor, O’Connor will donate $100 to Kids Konnected of Laguna Hills, which serves the children of cancer patients.

In creating the Heart & Soul program early in 2010, our goal was to highlight the generosity of spirit and the selflessness which characterizes so many of our residents. All too often, such small actions go unnoticed, and we want to bring these gifts to the public arena. To nominate an outstanding Orange County citizen, e-mail Patricia Kolstad at One Orange County citizen is presented the award each month.
